Cardiac Rehab: Week 5

This week a sales rep and surgeon from Medtronic came in to speak about a new catheter that was created to perform TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement). This treats severe aortic stenosis. In the procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision into the artery and inserts the device. It is then guided to the site of the aortic artery of the heart. Once in position, the frame is slowly released into proper placement. The device takes over the original valve's function to ensure proper blood flow out of the heart and throughout the body. The sales rep and a surgeon brought the equipment with them to Valley. It was easier to understand how the process worked by seeing the device. It was a very interesting discussion.
